I installed my new, non-staggered kit today, and it is a massive improvement.
Wasn’t too tricky ether, even if not quite a straightforward swap.
Found a few slight variations/additions to our conversation: Hope that this reply might help inform following buyers.
1. I removed the original tuners without effort, and pushed out the old bushings using an allen key of a similar size. Little effort needed.
2. The old screw holes could be easily filled using cocktail sticks, snapping them off in the holes, trimming the top with a sharp knife and using 600 grip sand paper to smooth it off.
3. The original holes in my headstock seem to be 8 mm, rather than 8.5 mm. The new tuners would not fit.
4. Out with the micrometer - I Measured the new set of Hipshot locking tuners at shaft width of 8.67 mm so I re - drilled the holes to 9 mm. Easy work, took a few moments, I didn’t need a pillar drill or any other trick gear.
5. The adapter plates with their lipped sides might be easy to use, but I preferred not to use them, but to to line up the new tuners with a straight edge and pre-drill a pilot hole and screw them into place. It just looks better, and its more elegant.
If i can do this, anyone can - so I hope that this might help future buyers. Brilliant kit.
