Epiphone® Les Paul® - Wiring

This is a wiring loom designed to fit into a Epiphone® (with the medium pot options) or Gibson® Les Paul (with the long shaft options), or similar guitar - differing slightly from the version which would be "Gibson® suitable, because it uses medium shaft pots, rather then long, to accomidate for the thinner tops on Epiphone® and other far eastern produced guitars.

Its worth noting that all Epiphone® guitars come with metric (8mm) holes as standard for the pots, and this loom is supplied with Imperial CTS pots (9.5mm) - however, we do offer metric 8mm CTS pots under the "Wiring - Extras" sections if you dont have the heart to drill out your guitar to take the larger diameter pots. Just be aware that they are a little more expensive.

Built here in the UK to order using CTS pots, Switchcraft socket and switch, 22 AWG waxed cloth wire with the braided external screen and Cornell Dubliner (formerly Sprague) “Orange Drop” capacitors – all in all, about the highest stamp of parts that are available on the market.

Its probably more common then ever for people to be upgrading and tweaking their "mid range" guitars to bring them into the same leagues as the "top end" stuff on the market, and its fair to say no other guitar line gets as much attention as the humble Epiphone® Les Paul® - in recent years, improvements in construction and finishing have meant they're a great foundation for this sort of thing.

But, as always with recent Epis, and infact, most other guitars made in the far east, the electronics normally leave a little to be desired, so this loom is a fantastic jumping off point to take your Korean, Japanese, Indonesian and Chinese guitars (be they Paul-a-likes, or anything with the characteristic 4 controls down the bottom, toggle switch up at the top bout!) to the next dimension.

So with that in mind, we’re making this pre-assembled loom up as a drop in replacement or upgrade for your guitars – dead easy to fit, just attach the pickups to the respective volume pot, connect the ground wire from the bridge to the ground loop - and your away – everything else has been done for you. Be aware though (and this isn't a hard and fast rule weirdly) - depending on your guitar, you may have to remove the switch from the loom to thread the wires through (its not too bad a job though, everything is colour coded, heat shrunk for safety -removing and re-connecting the switch is no harder then connecting your pickups.

Technical Brief

500k Pots (Logarithmic), 3 way toggle, mono output, 0.022 capacitor, wired to the "modern" standard

Please note – these assemblies are made to order, and as such, come under the rules and regulations pertaining to custom work in regards of returns.

Also note – these are not official Gibson® or Epiphone® part

5 of 5 Truly excellent August 9, 2020

The quality of the workmanship is truly excellent and whilst I'm a half decent solderer, the soldering here far exceeds what I'm capable of. I was worried from reading other reviews on this website that I'd have to remove the switch to fit it to my 2003 Epi LP, but after 45 minutes and a great deal of patience I was able to feed the switch through the guitar without needing to disconnect it first. If you're looking to upgrade your Epiphone to a more Gibson spec - this is where to start.

5 of 5 CTS Switchcraft pre wired loom March 1, 2014
Reviewer: Andy Baker from milford on sea, Hampshire England
Recently purchased a prewired loom and it arrived in next to no time packed in a funky little box which has become a cool spare parts box now. The loom itself is lovely and the components are typical top quality. I retrofitted a custom deluxe tele with some P90s and used this loom to complete the job.. Other than a little hole reaming for the fat shafted pots (not a lot.... easy) the loom fell into place nicely. I had to de and re solder the jack wire to gain an inch for fit but otherwise it was a doddle.
I know you cant see the upgrade but trust me, this is pro stuff and if you want pro kit then I can only say to start here.. You wont regret it.. Oh, and the tele is a total tone hound now!!

5 of 5 Thanks for all your help, advice and great service January 6, 2014

Well, the loom turned up this morning. Very nicely put together. Love the box it came in too!

I have just finished the install. All very straight forward. I had to de-solder the switch to install it, which wasn't a problem but it just didn't look quite as neatly done after I had re- soldered it!

Widening the holes for the CTS pots was a breeze. Five minutes with a bit of rolled up sand paper and they popped in. The loom length is perfect, not too long but with enough slack to be able to install everything without putting strain on the solder joints.

The new loom combined with the Bareknuckle pickups has made a massive difference. My Epiphone Les Paul now sounds sublime.
