Description Technical Specs

This is a bush that fits over the "top" of a split shaft pot (which are 6mm diameter) to build them out to 1/4" (6.35mm) which is the same as a solid shaft pot - allowing for you to fit solid shaft barrel knobs without having to worry about deforming the split.

This is a fairly niche part to be honest, but there is some logic behind its existence - so, without getting bogged down in too much back story - heres the why!

Alot of guitars come with barrel knobs - but there are actually 3 "kinds" - each with their own little niggles.

You get "push fit" knobs, which turn up on a lot of far eastern guitars - they mesh with split shaft knobs as you'd expect, and have no set screw to secure the knob against the pot - BUT - because they internal is molded plastic, and because they only turn up on far eastern guitars, they only exist in metric splines (the teeth inside - 16 of the little things!) - so, they wont fit onto an imperial split shafts (which have 24 splines)

you get "set screw split shaft" knobs, get around this problem by having no plastic insert, and are just smooth internally, allowing them to be fitted to either Metric or Imperial splines - BUT - because the pots post has a split in it, tightening up the set screw can close or open that slot, which can result in "knob wobble" - which is far from ideal (personally, i really dislike split shaft set screw knobs!)

And then you get the grand daddy of the bunch, "set screw solid shaft" knobs - these hark back to when barrel knobs first started to appear on guitars in the 50s, and they are the original design - with a 1/4" internal hole, completely smooth, and a set screw designed to tighten down against a completely solid/tubular post on the pot - no chance of compressing that, so no pot wobble! The way it should always have been!

These bushings, basically, make all knobs obsolete apart from the set screw solid shaft version - no need to worry about metric vs. imperial, no need to worry about squashing the split or alligning the screw - just stick it over any split shaft knob, stick a solid shaft knob over the top, tighten the screw, and your away!

The only thing you've got to watch out for, is when the insert is "in the knob" - your probably never getting it out, so your essentially, permenantly converting solid shaft set screws knobs into something that will only ever fit onto split shafts from there on it - but beyond that? A brilliant little thing! Eliminates the need to know far too much about pot splines, and saves massive headaches when trying to track down rarer solid shaft pots!
