Switchcraft sockets, specifically the Mono version, are the gold standard when it comes to jack sockets - turning up as standard on Fender® and Gibson® guitars consitently.
They also have the added benefit, of being roughly the same diameter as cheaper mono sockets (which turn up in Epiphone® and Squier® guitars, as well as most other far eastern brands) - so its a very simple job to upgrade to them.
One thing Switchcraft® do differently to most other jack manufacturers, is they actually offer their sockets in (atleast) 2 lengths.
As a rough guide - it works the same as your pots.
If you're putting the jack socket onto a pickguard, or a plastic or metal plate, then you'll be wanting the short thread version.
If its going into the wood (which should be, around about, 5mm thick - which is the norm) then you want the medium thread version.
Beyond that, its all pretty plain sailing really.
One thing to watch out for - Switchcraft dont offer plated sockets - so if you've going for gold or black nuts/washers, the thread will still be in Nickel.
