Wide range humbuckers are, frankly, a bit mad!

Originally, the wide range humbucker was built around huge bobbins (similar size to a Telecaster bridge pickups "top" flatwork in width), and they came with threaded CUNiFe rod magnets with a slot head cut into them - so they looked to all the world, like a normal pole bolt, but they were far from it. With no bar magnet hiding underneath the bobbins, the original pickup was, pretty much, just two Fender® single coils wired in series, lurking in a big cover!

Since then - the waters have become a little muddier.

CuNiFe was a rare magnet, even in the 70s, and it has pretty much disappeared since then (although some argue that FeCrCo has similar properties, and thats still common!) so when the Telecaster Deluxe was re-issued in 2004, things had to change.

The Wide range humbucker was back, but rather then being this hodge podge of Fender® tech in a Gibson® package, it was something closer to a normal humbucker - steel poles, and a bar magnet.

BUT - the actual parts used weren't the same - the "modern" wide range uses EZ bobbins, and large threaded bolts, which required a specialist base which facilitated the terminals being on the outside of the pickup!

This, is not that base! This is a base that lets you do something different with the Wide range route in your guitar.

Taking inspiration from the original design (which actually looked near identical to this) - this base is designed to take "normal" humbucker bobbins and poles - so you can take your existing humbucker, and mount it into a wide range cover - so as long as you've got something with a 52mm pole spacing, you can use this base (and this cover!)
